Peaceful Heart Sangha
Peaceful Heart Sangha is a community that practices meditation in the Buddhist tradition of Vietnamese Zen Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. We meet the first and third Thursday of every month from 8:00-9:30 AM at the River Studio in Hallowell and also every Monday from 6:30-8:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Augusta. Practicing meditation helps cultivate awareness and mindfulness in everyday life and develops peace, stability, and healing within the present moment. Meditation involves being in touch with one’s breath and body and aware of the ways in which the mind carries us out of this present moment. We will begin with seated meditation, walking meditation, share a reading from Thich Nhat Hanh’s book Peace is Every Step, and have dharma discussion about bringing meditation practice into our lives. On a bi-monthly basis, we also recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings at River Studio.
River Studio has chairs, blankets and cushions for sitting. Please arrive a few minutes early to get comfortable before we begin. Feel free to bring your own cushion. Practice is free and all are welcome. If you are a beginner to meditation, please request a newcomer’s packet at the end of practice. We have a dana (giving) bowl for donations to the sangha. We also offer days of mindfulness, and regular 14 Mindfulness Training recitations in Augusta. For more information about Peaceful Heart Sangha, please visit:
