Peaceful Heart Sangha
Thursdays 8:00-9:30 AM
Peaceful Heart Sangha is a community that practices meditation in the Buddhist tradition of Vietnamese Zen Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. We meet every Thursday from 8:00-9:30AM at the River Studio in Hallowell and also every Monday from 6:30-8:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Augusta. Practicing meditation helps cultivate awareness and mindfulness in everyday life and develops peace, stability, and healing within the present moment. Meditation involves being in touch with one’s breath and body and aware of the ways in which the mind carries us out of this present moment. We will begin with seated meditation, walking meditation, share a reading from Thich Nhat Hanh’s book Peace is Every Step, and have dharma discussion about bringing meditation practice into our lives. On a bi-monthly basis, we also recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings at River Studio.
River Studio has chairs, blankets and cushions for sitting. Please arrive a few minutes early to get comfortable before we begin. Feel free to bring your own cushion. Practice is free and all are welcome. If you are a beginner to meditation, please request a newcomer’s packet at the end of practice. We have a dana (giving) bowl for donations to the sangha. We also offer days of mindfulness, and regular 14 Mindfulness Training recitations in Augusta. Yin Moon Nidra ~ with Kim Nixon & Julie Gammon
One Friday evening, bi-monthly (view the schedule for dates)
Yin Moon Nidra is a powerful little immersion into peace, community, ceremony and self-care: gentle Yin Yoga with Kim Nixon, Yoga Nidra (guided meditation) with Julie Gammon, a little astrology and lots of sacred ceremony.
YIN YOGA is a quiet, meditative practice that works on all levels of the being. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access the deep layers of connective tissue. Physically, Yin Yoga helps us to open our bodies and to restore and maintain range of motion in the joints. Energetically, it opens the body’s meridian system, enhancing the energetic flow. Through its emphasis on stillness and silence, it helps prepare the body and mind for deeper experiences in meditation. (No previous yoga experience is required. Beneficial for all body types, including those with joint issues. )
YOGA NIDRA is a specific type of guided relaxation which leads you through connection with the 5 sheaths of your being (physical, energetic, emotional, mental, and bliss bodies). The superconscious state of yoga nidra has been shown to accelerate healing and learning.
For dates and details, contact Kim at firstname.lastname@example.org or 207-242-7338.
