The practice of Kundalini yoga is the journey to your true nature. Through mantra, you will use sound vibration to connect to your inner teacher and express your unique essence; through kriya (a sequence of postures, breath, and sound), you will prepare your body for meditation; through meditation, you will calm your mind.
Joy’s personal goal is to provide yoga classes that are accessible for all, and focus not only on the asanas (body postures) but pranayama (breath control), and pratyahara (control of the senses through meditation). She looks forward to joining all experience levels (especially beginners) in their yoga journey! The only requirement is to show up!
Peggy Baird offers Gentle Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on breath-linked movement, body alignment and present moment awareness. Join her for Sunrise Yoga, Wednesday mornings at 6:30. No previous yoga experience required.
Kim Nixon offers a traditional Hatha Yoga class, integrating styles from a variety of yoga traditions. Class emphasis is on breath-linked movement, body alignment, creating body awareness, and learning to “listen to your body.” A typical class may incorporate meditation, pranayama (breath techniques), gentle movement, and both standing and seated postures.
Yin Yoga is a more meditative form of yoga. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access a safe and positive “stress” on the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. Great for all body types. (No previous yoga experience required.) Wednesdays at 9am and 5:30pm and Thursdays at 5:30. Drop ins welcome! ($12 drop in or register for the monthly series discount at $10/class.)
Julia offers asana, (pose) variations that honor and support individual differences. Students in her class can expect guidance in coordinating breath with movement, as well as an emphasis on core structure and balance. Join Julia for (mixed levels) Hatha Yoga on Sunday mornings. Drop ins welcome. Contact her directly to register for ongoing Beginner Yoga Series on Monday evenings.
