Joy has a passion for promoting healthy lifestyles and her career has focused on it for the past 20 years. She holds a Masters Degrees in Health Administration and Health Education from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. She is also a Master Certified Health Education Specialist. In 2016, Joy completed training to become a health and wellness coach, and in 2017 received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification from Downtown Yoga and Healing Arts School. Joy’s personal goal is to provide yoga classes that are accessible for all. She looks forward to joining others as they embark on their journey to health with yoga!
Yoga has been an integral part of Jessica’s holistic health lifestyle since finishing her 8 year journey with the Army National Guard in 2010. She has found personal relief from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) symptoms based upon the mind, body and spirit approach that yoga offers. With a particular focus on living in the present moment, meditation, pranayama (breath work), asana (postures of yoga), time spent in nature and healthy diet, there was incredible transformation from fight-or-flight mode into a balanced state of being. Jessica uses her personal experience and knowledge of the body to empower others to take charge of healing their own bodies & minds through the practice of yoga.
In her almost 15 years of practice, Alex has developed a deep respect for the connection between the healthy physical self and the peaceful spiritual self…and finds the way to bridge the two is through yoga. Alex’s authentic, perfection-dispensing approach to life is reflected in her teaching style, always encouraging students to smile, laugh, acknowledge and enjoy what they are capable of…instead of focusing on their idea of “perfect.”
Peggy Baird is a Registered Nurse with over 40 years experience as an active duty Army Nurse and as a nurse with the Veteran’s Administration, working with Veterans suffering with chronic mental health issues and PTSD. She has been a student of hatha yoga since the 1970’s and received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification from ShivaShakti School of Yoga in Union, Maine, in 2015. She believes that inherent in each person is the ability to heal themselves by developing strength, confidence, stability and resilience through gentle hatha yoga, breath work and practicing present moment awareness.
Julia happily recognizes Yoga as the biggest staple in both her personal and professional life. Not only reaping the physical benefits through dedicated practice, Yoga has brought mindfulness, compassion and patience into her relationships. Expect to develop self-awareness in Julia’s classes by observing physical sensations, quality of breath, and level of activity in the mind.
Kim is our Studio Manager here at The River Studio. In addition to being a 500-hr Registered Yoga Teacher, she is also a licensed massage therapist and certified Reiki practitioner. She has been practicing yoga for 10 years, doing massage and bodywork since 2009, and teaching yoga since 2012. As both a yoga teacher and massage therapist, Kim describes yoga as the “active version of massage.” She integrates her knowledge of anatomy & physiology into her yoga classes, with emphasis on alignment and breath-linked movement. Kim believes that yoga is for EVERY body and is passionate about sharing the healing benefits of gentle movement, meditation and breathwork.
